Bobbers?
Bobbers?
Contributor: Dean Rapp
Do you use a strike indicator or a bobber when you fly fish? I was once chasized for calling my strike indictor a bobber ... However, after my first trip on the 11pt I now know that fishing conditions will dictate which I'm using. I was first introduced to Thingamabobbers at a National TU meeting but it was not until I took a guided trip on the 11 pt that I actually had a chance to use them.
If you are trying to drift large heavy nymphs on the bottom of deep and fast moving water these bobbers are just the ticket. The traditional strike indicators just can't stay affloat long enough to catch those trout. The next time you fish such water be sure and take a few. There are a couple of different brands available and if you know of others please, do share.
I've not yet tried the 1/2" but the 3/4" was able to hold up any fly I was capable of casting. The 1 inch just seems way to large for my needs but I'm sure I'll find a use for them some day.
