Summary:

Silver Creek just outside of Show Lo AZ provided some great fishing and
an opportunity to meet some fantastic people. The creek feeds a hatchery
about 2 miles upstream of the parking lot. I started fishing from the
parking lot up, and found it interesting that most just walked right
past me. The creek near the parking lot is narrow and relatively slow
flowing. The fish are extremely spooky and difficult casting with all
the vegetation that abounds. I caught two really nice fish after much
trial and error and about 4 hours of fishing.
I started jumping from pool to pool and noticed that most
everyone I had seen walk past me was now walking back to the parking lot
so I pushed on up stream. What I found was that the upper section widens
and deepends drastically. The fishing by nature of the stream would be
much easier. It was soon after the stream widens that I met a really
nice couple who showed me some pictures of large fish they had caught
and instructed me to fish a section of stream considered to be a "must"
fish area. I noticed a lot of large fish sipping something off the top
of the water so I tied on a parachute emerger pattern and landed another
8 large fish. I suspect my emerger looked more like fish food pellets
but then I really don't care what they thought it was...I only cared
that they took my fly for something. The fishery is hook'm and cook'm
during the summer and catch and release during the winter. If you are in
the Show Low area I'd suggest you give it a try.
